CIVILTECH 2
On September 15, 2017, the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE) successfully organized the 2nd Conference on Civil Technology – CivilTech 2.
The event gathered 11 domestic and international enterprises, more than 40 researchers from universities across Southern Vietnam, and featured over 35 scientific papers and presentations. CivilTech 2 became a dynamic forum for academics, experts, and industry leaders to exchange knowledge, discuss innovative construction technologies, and explore practical applications of research in the field of civil engineering.
Key Highlights

35 submitted papers, with 30 accepted for publication in the Journal of Construction under the Ministry of Construction.

Contributions included 13 papers from HCMUTE’s Faculty of Civil Engineering and the remainder from other universities.

6 keynote presentations in the plenary session and 30 talks across 3 parallel sessions, covering diverse areas such as new technologies, construction materials, soil mechanics, transportation, and urban planning.

Participation from notable enterprises and institutions including Structures Vietnam, Freyssinet, SIKA, INTOC, UNICONS, and Taiwan universities.
Achievements

Promoted the image of HCMUTE’s Faculty of Civil Engineering in celebration of the university’s 55th anniversary.

Strengthened collaboration between researchers and industry, fostering innovation in construction technology.

Enhanced academic contributions with 30 published papers recognized in the national academic system.

Established CivilTech as a biennial event, shaping it into a significant scientific platform for civil engineering in Vietnam.
Challenges & Future Directions

International delegates from Taiwan could not attend due to weather conditions.

The plenary session mixed Vietnamese and English presentations; future editions aim to improve professionalism by including a fully English session.

Broader outreach across Vietnam, especially to Northern universities, is needed to elevate CivilTech into a truly international conference.

Stronger industry-research partnerships should be developed for long-term collaboration.
Overall Evaluation
CivilTech 2 showcased high-quality, innovative, and applicable research in civil engineering. Its success was made possible by the dedicated support of sponsors, HCMUTE leadership, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, and the organizing committees.
